Martin Zenck

Martin Zenck, born 1945 in St. Peter (Black Forest); after his studies of musicology, philosophy and contemporary German literature in Freiburg and Berlin, he wrote his dissertation on „Art as abstract cognition“ (Kunst als begriffslose Erkenntnis) (Fink, Munich 1975) and professorial thesis on a scholarship of the German Research Foundation (DFG) on „The reception of Bach by the late Beethoven“ (Die Bach-Rezeption des späten Beethoven) (Steiner, Stuttgart 1982); dissertation and habilitation both with Carl Dahlhaus as his primary supervisor at the Berlin Institute of Technology. Since 1989 he became professor for historical musicology in Bamberg and 2006 professor with a focus on contemporary music, aesthetics and media in Würzburg. His main research fields are “Theatricality”, “Violence in the arts and medias” and “Rational, performative and mimetic concepts of understanding in cultural studies“
